Hire Magento Developers

Magento rewards discipline and punishes shortcuts. A module that overrides a core class, an indexer left in the wrong mode or a skipped security patch may go unnoticed for months and then take the store down during a sale. Magento developers are hired as much to prevent that as to build features.

Our developers work on Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce 2.4 installations. The person assigned joins your repository and ticket system, reports to you, and explains what they are doing in plain terms. We take care of employment, hardware and cover.

The work

Magento work that needs a specialist

Magento is large enough that general PHP knowledge is not sufficient. These are the six areas where knowledge of the platform matters most.

  1. Version upgrades and patches

Moving between 2.4 releases, applying security patches, and updating PHP, the database and the search engine to the versions each release requires. Every third-party module is checked against the target version before the upgrade branch is cut.

  2. Custom modules

Features written as proper modules using dependency injection, plugins and observers, with declarative schema and data patches. No edits to core files, and no class rewrites where a plugin will do.

  3. Checkout and cart behaviour

Custom shipping methods, payment integrations, totals collectors and checkout steps. The JavaScript layer of the checkout is changed through layout XML and mixins so that upgrades remain possible.

  4. Performance and caching

Full page cache with Varnish, Redis for sessions and cache, indexers set to update on schedule, and cron and message queue consumers that are confirmed to be running. Slow pages are profiled to find the block or query responsible.

  5. Storefront themes

Themes built on the standard Luma stack or on Hyvä, which replaces RequireJS and Knockout with Alpine.js and Tailwind CSS. We check module compatibility before recommending a change of front end.

  6. ERP, PIM and marketplace integrations

Product, price, stock and order exchange through the REST and GraphQL APIs or message queues. Imports are built to process changes in batches without locking the catalogue or forcing a full reindex each time.

Seniority

Seniority in Magento terms

Magento has a long learning curve, so levels mean more here than on smaller platforms. The question is how far into the framework the task reaches.

Junior

Changes templates and layout XML, adds product attributes, configures the admin and fixes styling bugs. Follows existing module patterns and has every change reviewed.

Choose when: a Magento lead is already in place to review and to decide how things are built.

Mid-level

Writes modules with plugins, observers and data patches, extends the APIs, and carries out a patch-level upgrade with a tested deployment. Reads core code to find out how something works.

Choose when: the store is stable and you need features and fixes delivered from a backlog.

Senior

Plans upgrades across many modules, resolves conflicts between extensions, tunes indexing and caching, and says so when something should not be built inside Magento at all.

Choose when: you face a major upgrade, persistent performance trouble, or a store inherited with no documentation.

Getting started

The route into a Magento engagement

  1. Share the basics

Edition and version, hosting, number of store views, and a list of installed modules if you have one. Add what you need done.

  2. Interview the proposed developer

We name one engineer. You talk to them about your store and judge their answers. Ask for someone else if you are not satisfied.

  3. One limited task first

A bug, a small module or an audit of one slow page. It goes through your normal review and deployment, so you see the quality before extending.

  4. Ongoing delivery

Tickets stay in your system and code in your repository. We send a weekly summary of completed and blocked items and raise one invoice each month.

Straight talk

Is a dedicated Magento developer what you need?

We are a good choice when

  • Your store runs on Magento 2 and needs regular development and patching.
  • You are several releases behind and want the upgrade planned properly.
  • Extensions conflict with each other and nobody can say why.
  • You are an agency that needs Magento skills on a client account.

Look elsewhere when

  • You are still on Magento 1 and want it kept alive indefinitely. We would discuss a migration instead.
  • Your catalogue is small and simple. A lighter platform would cost less to run.
  • You want the upgrade done without a staging environment.
  • You need on-site presence.
Questions

Answers on Magento and Adobe Commerce

Do you work on both Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce?

Yes. The two share a code base. Adobe Commerce adds features such as B2B, content staging and customer segments, and its cloud edition has its own deployment tooling. Licensing is between you and Adobe.

How long does an upgrade take?

It depends on the number of third-party and custom modules far more than on the size of the catalogue. We audit the modules first and give you an estimate based on what that audit finds, not before.

Should we move to a Hyvä front end?

It usually makes pages lighter and front-end work quicker, because it drops much of the JavaScript the default theme carries. The cost is that each extension with a storefront component needs a compatible version. We count those before advising.

Why is the admin or the storefront slow?

Common causes are indexers set to update on save, cron not running, a block marked as non-cacheable that switches off full page cache for the page, and extensions that load collections inside loops. Each can be confirmed by profiling.

Is the code ours?

Yes. Modules and themes written for you are committed to your repository and belong to you under the agreement. Commercial extensions stay under the licences of their vendors.

What happens if the engineer leaves?

We find a replacement and you approve them. Since the work is in your repository with notes on each change, the handover does not depend on what one person remembers.
